    Width and height question

Yeah, I thought about that too, going with a strip plank Hawaiian style canoe or something. There are so many things to do. Let me ask you this, with a flat bottom design can you make separating hull design? That way no part is more than 8 feet long. That would fit much easier into my...

    Width and height question

I'm already thinking about things I want to try with my next pirogue. If I reduce the width by say ten inches, how much more height do I add to make up for the difference in capacity? How would I even figure this out? I know this would be unstable but I plan to add an outrigger. I figure if...

    Rub rails

Hmm Thanks for the suggestion; 16' 2x10 it makes a lot of sense. You're bound to get several clean strips from that. I'll go that route. I love forums; they take so much trail and error out of the equation.

    Design you own boat

I'm mostly interested in building something for myself. I building an Uncle John's Pirogue, but I want to add an south pacific style outrigger. I guess the next step would be to build some kind of round bottom design with an outrigger. I'm interested in outrigger canoes for fishing these big...

    Rub rails

    When to epoxy

Do you guys epoxy before glassing? Is it necessary to glass the inside of the boat? Can you just epoxy soak the inside and be done with it? What do you guys recommend?

    Check out this Pirogue

Yeah, i tell ya once I was fishing at a boat landing. Some guy pulls up in his $30,000 truck pulling his quite modest $8,000 bass boat. But he gets in the water, cranks up, drives 100 yards down the bank, anchors down and starts fishing. I thinking did he really need all that horse power...

    Check out this Pirogue

Yeah, that's what it looks like just old cut up inner tubes. Good for allowing a little flex while out on the water. That's great for all this barge traffic we get and these $30,000 bass boats that go racing by in the summers.

    Check out this Pirogue

Outrigger Pirogue It's an outrigger pirogue almost exactly the way I want to build mine. I'd probably use straight iakos (crossmembers) and plywood ama (floater). It's amazing the decisions you make once you're midway through building one of Uncle John's kits.

    Survival Kits

Ahh, yeah. I see. There doesn't seem to be anything there of substance. Maybe 3 chapters out of 16 seem relevant. Plus what does some super hot babe have to do with survival? At any rate aren't all of Amazon's book offered at a reduced price? I never remember paying full price for any book there.

    Outrigger question

Okay I've decided on this design for my pirogue: http://www.easyriderkayaks.com/outriggers-k.htm I've got a bunch of plywood to make several of these. As far as dimensions go, do I just take my current pirogue dimensions and cut the size by a quarter? For instance if you have a 16 foot...

    Make your Own Hammock

http://www.hammockforums.net/ Here's a plug for Hammock forums guys. Since we're making our own boats, why not our own shelters? To date I've made a Spear hammock, A Hennessey copy, and currently finishing a Bridge hammock. Hammocks are fun to make and easy also. The thing I like best is...
