    Chaland #2

Looks like a good, stable design for short distance fishing trips.

    plywood choices

Terry, does this ply have a really thin top laminate? The surface looks very good and that usually means big money or thin laminates.

    Tenkara Rods

Chuck, I never fished with one but I kinda like the idea. If you really think about it, the majority of casts you make with a flyrod are sub 30ft. I think that's pretty doable with a tenkara outfit. I tie what's called a Cap Spider.....basically a bream killer with a tiny, tiny jig head...

    Poor Man's Fiberglass

You could do that, but that would leave almost a plow shape to the lower bow. I would maybe try your idea on a scale model or maybe just cut up a few pieces of cardboard to test the idea.

    Poor Man's Fiberglass

One possible negative with outside chines. Where they meet at bow and stern, they leave an awkward not-so-streamlined shape. Not necessarily a game changer, but maybe something to consider.

    Poor Man's Fiberglass

Erier, I'm with Beekeeper on the structural use of PMF. I wouldn't be comfortable that it would take the place of fiberglass, especially on the chines of an Uncle John's pirogue. You can make a sturdy, long-lasting wood chine boat with only paint as a covering. That's a lot faster, simpler...

    What Makes A Boat A ..........?

Let me muddy up the waters a bit here. Canoe, kayak and pirogue are found in the dictionary. What's found in the dictionary is not the definition of a term........not a carved in stone official definition. What's in the dictionary is the USE of the word. That use may be different for...

    SOLO An Interesting Twig Stove

Twig stoves are fun. I've made a couple of different kinds. I like them, but keep coming back to a plain old metal grill. I cut one of those Walmart ones down to a little smaller size just big enough for two pots. It folds flat and it's not too heavy if you're boat camping. I went one...

    Deeply disturbing.

My take. There's a picture circulating around the internet of Clint Eastwood with a scowl on his face. The caption reads "Wait until the people that just want to be left alone get involved." 'Nough said!

A Long Way Around, a Pirouge Build

Looks good, Bee. You must have a clamp note! :D

    A Preacher

Neat, Bee. My preacher is a little different in that I use it to skip over the roughed out bottom panel to get the nails into the chines along the right line and at the right angle. The preacher is a lifesaver, isn't it?

A Long Way Around, a Pirouge Build

I like it , Bee. My boats are about half finished when I get to that point. LOL!

Tales from the Log of the Ruptured Duck

Sorry to hear that, Buddy. Sometimes you just have to know when to hold em and when to fold em. Sooooo..........what's next?

Tales from the Log of the Ruptured Duck

I think Jack has his facts a little off. I was a wholesome ole country boy until I met Jack. Now I drink whiskey....neat. Shame on him!

Jack, JACK, snap out of it! You've gone off the deep end! LOL!

Tales from the Log of the Ruptured Duck

I'll play. LOL. When you walk, you are lifting more than your body weight when you push off with each step. If you don't believe that, watch the scale when you step off of it. The scale goes up a LOT. With a bike, the wheels are supporting your weight and you are using a fraction of that...

    Stitch and Glue No Plans

"...a similar boat a little longer and less deck, ...." So, basically, you're heading in the direction of a + or - 12 foot pirogue/canoe type of boat. That's a good, solid, proven style of boat............for a good reason.........it does a lot of things really well.

    Stitch and Glue No Plans

Jack, they probably would have been even more alike if the Aleuts would have had access to the same materials.
