I have been learning form your forum for several month now. I have completed the wood build of the kit and have fiberglassed the inside bottom up to 4 inch of the sides. I will fiberglass the bottom outside and paint the boat. I have not asked any questions so far but have studied your comments. I hope to finish the boat soon and build 4 sets of the Old sparkey seats. ( I plan to build a smaller pirogue when I finish the large one 15 feet some inches). I will post some pictures and add an avitar when the beer wears off and I can figure it all out.

There is an instruction thread round here someplace on how to post piccies but I'm too drunk to find it just now. Chuck'll be along shortly to welcome you proper.

Thanks Bearridge,

I did know about the canoe trail. My brother-in-law and I want to do some of the overnight trips. This led me to investigate what kind of boat would work the best in the delta. That is how I wound up building a pirogue.

This thread got by me. Welcome, skiwright. I think you'll find that your pirogue will do just about anything you can throw at it. I've had mine in 2 " of water in the swamp, bayous and bays. It is a heck of a fishing platform and a pretty good tourer. About the only things that taxed it was wind and waves. It tends to weathercock in high wind and it's not a rough water boat, but it was not designed for that. It should do well in your delta waters.

Good Paddling.

Joey

We do all like pictures, but I would not say they are so important that you should let the beer wear off over it. I mean heck, we can FIND pictures. Beer is a priority.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier but welcome! And what these guys say around here are right. Once you build one you'll be itching to build another. I built a JEM 14-29 Pirouge, started in February. Took her out for a test run in March and started building another boat in April. :D I'm scarred to think what I build next.

Yep... They are like a potato chip , one just will not do it , almost like a cold beer on a hot summer afternoon or at pipers shindig with a lot of friends , or even a big ole plate of home fried chicken , one piece .... forget that ... not even thinking about that big pile of fresh cooked crawdads ....one is just not enough no matter how you look at it.
Better yet .....How about some bacon cooking over a camp fire , heck a handful is never enough. :D

Same thing with our boats... One just does not make it , might say the building is really addictive.

Chuck.
