Smelly Wood

I recently bought two 2"x4"x10' boards from Home Depot. They are white and seem relative light weight. I assumed they were "white" pine.
When cutting or milling they emit a nasty strong smell. Markings include "Canfor" Prime, S-P-F, #2, CMSA 110.
S-P-F stands for spruce, pine, and fir. They do not appear to be pine or fir to me. I believe they may be "White Spruce".
Has anyone ever had lumber stink when cutting it, or know what species I have?

Only wood that ever smelled to me was pine or cedar when it was cut.

Stinky SPF 2x4

Hey guys, Got a strange question... Hoping for some identification help. I found a scrapped piece of an SPF 2x4 that I was going to use for a project... Looked a whole lot like Spruce or Fir -- Med rays not particularly prominent, even on split out stock.... Wood color.. Looks like light...
