Generally strips run 1/4" to 5/16" thick. . . just remember that you'll lose a little of that in the fairing (the scraping, sanding, and planing) but you'll gain thickness back with the 'glass. . .
you can use epoxy thickened with woodflour (fine sawdust). If you're trying to color match, experiment because the mixture color will be darker than the wood. You could get some cabosil filler (white) and do a blend of that and pine woodflour to lighten the color.
When I made mine and during the sanding on the panels I got a ton of wood flour. If you sander has a collection bag on it , that is some good wood flour to use on the boat. Just put the flour in zip locks.
Also got a lot from the sawing but had to sift it to remove any chunks.
Something happen to them , not sure what it was but they were posted on here. There is a picture on page #1 of this post of one of the panels and one of the mistakes I made.
