Mick,
Are the pics you are posting a part of the river that will be flooded if the damn dam is built?.

If so, it will be a tragic loss. Those pics of the area should be in every store window and on the front page of every paper until the damn dam is no longer considered.

G'day, and thanks guys,

I need to be a little careful on what I say here from now on.

The piccies were taken of part of the river both above and below the proposed dam wall. The one where the little meeting was on the sand bar was where the wall will be built if it gets federal approval.

The dam wall will be so high, and rainfall in this area so unreliable with the capacity of the dam itself being huge that many experts believe that it will never fill. If this is the case, then the area below the wall will not flow at all except from smaller feeder creeks further down stream.

This has ramifications further down stream in that the Mary River is the only fresh water feeder that flows into the Great Sandy Straights a Ramsar protected, and world heritage listed wetland and marine reserve.

The lost of rare and endangered species of fish, amphibians and other marine life that are endemic to this river system is allmost certainly ensured. all the scientists who were heads of department and in charge of the water boards running this thing and who were against this dam from the outset have been replaced with others who have no expertise in this field.

The list goes on and on.

I'm thinking of starting a separate thread to let any and all information out to the world about this , Something I can do and no one can do anything about it since I'm not under any form of Australian Government Control , or anyone else's as far as that goes and neither are you folks outside of Austrailia. :D

Mick,

I jest sent an email ta the executive director of American Whitewater. I tole him the Mary River aint big time whitewater, but it haz a few fine lookin' Class II rapids that likely git tougher in high water. I asked him if there wuz anythin' they kin do ta help some Aussie Davids havin' a go at an Aussie Goliath. Then I figgered time wuz short. Mebbe ya oughta pass these links on ta that fella in the yellow kayak? Both organizations fight this fight all year long.

Bear...

Fer ya information and anyone else .... On the back channel's there has been a Lot's of folks joining in this. The snowball is getting bigger.

Give me a day or so and then we will have a edited post on here with a click on link ( just copy and then paste it when you contact your local news station so they can have instant acess to this information ) you can send to your local news station and if they want to tell the world , then they can.

My understanding is that some of the local folks ( Down Under ) are getting a little heat from this ( makes me think we have hit a nerve) but since I don't live or work in Australia ..... Nut's to there slimmy , care less , government.

It's time for us to take the heat off of our Brothers and Sisters in the land of OZ. You and I need to step forward since there is nothing they can do to us. :D

I have just finished reading all the posts from all you good people. If we can get this snow ball rolling and bring this travesty to the light of day in not only the Land of Oz but in your part of the world and others, we just might put a stop to what I believe will be a huge waste of time & money, not to mention the human cost. This ill thought out plan to dam this mighty river has already taken the lives of good honest, hard working folk. Please guys do what you can to spread the word about this damn dam.
Bless you all

Miz Robin,

The way I see it, yer politikle folk dont give a rats hindquarter when somebody frum the USA complains bout a Aussie turtle 'er river, but stories in the Aussie news bout how folks frum all over the world iz behind the local folks who aim ta save this river will put more heat on 'em ta avoid blame. That iz the first rule of guviment....avoid blame.

All the paddlin'/fishin'/campin'/turtle lovin' folks iz agin the dam. It iz all the other folks who aint really give it much thought ya'll gotta reach. News dont cover a story but once.....cuz after that it aint new no more. However, unforseen world wide interest in this fine downunder river oughta git back in the news 'n make some folks wonder? That iz half the battle.

I got a caution. How everbody behaves makes a heap a difference. If we act like the Petaphiles (throwin' blood on folks, botherin' hunters, breakin' down the doors 'n turnin' chimps loose, etc) or use too much hard talk bout evil guviment folks, the folks who need ta think 'n join up with us, mite jest change the channel....'n watch rasslin'.

my three cents (US) worth
bearridge

ps I hate ta put all the eggs in the turtle basket. Some folks likely quit listenin' when they figger worryin' bout a turtle iz a bit queer. The reglar outdoor folks who aint too worried bout that turtle need ta join up....same fer the fishermen (fisherwomen too), ranchers 'n cowboys, rite? How bout all the landscape pichur takin' folks?
