Weather has been so cold and wet I can't work on my boats so I did some other things today.
Found me a 2 by 6 that looked pretty good

sawed it up in strips

Then sawed it up in some smaller strips

ground one end round

Then I sat down and thrue a little jig together for my router table

Ran the small squares thrue the jig

and wound up with this

cut them to length,straightened them then cut a bevel on one end

Well you figure out what it is yet. More to come later

A finished arrow, You can take a 2 by 6 8 ft long and make 72, six dozen arrows, they shoot good.
I hadn't made any in a while so I geared back up. I usually put 38 hulls on for blunts,they make excellent bunny squirrel snake arrows,put a broadhead on them and they will take whatever you want to take

These arrows are 23/64 dia.
They are splined pretty heavy.
I usually shoot them and cull and group them then.I do put the nocks cross grained.

Specifically, how the block work with initially square wood being turned into round.

enquiring minds NEED to know.

I will try to explain how it works
cut the squares big enough so you have no flat spots after they are turned.
the first block hole size is a snug fit around your square.
then comes the router bit, just a straight bit ,you adjust this in and out to get your shaft size
second block is the size you want the finished shaft
the third block has the finished shaft size hole also this just keeps the shaft straight.
The end that is ground round fits in a drill.
turn the router on start feeding the square wood into the first block while spinning it with the drill. as it spins you feed it past the router and that turns it round

Darrel found some Douglas fur today and we cut out some arrows. I sure like it better than the pine stiffer and a lot heavier.
We shot some of the pine arrows we finished ,put a 45 acp hull on the end , they buried up about 8 inches in 2 lb foam out of a 50 lb re curve,then Darrel shot a piece of concrete didnt bust the arrow but hit so hard the nock flew off.
The pine are ok but I think the fur is better.

The arrows I used when I was into bow hunting were the 11 -32 shafts. I could take a piece of grass ( a blade of it ) fold it over the end of the shaft and stick an empty 38 cal brass on there. Did wonders on birds and tree rats. That flat end of the brass sure keep it from tunneling under the grass when shooting at birds trying to hide under a shrub on in tall grass. Played heck on armadillos and rabbits also.

I used some Judo Points with springs on. They were good for small game & stayed up on top of grass & such. Shot at a beer can in front of a board fence one day, and an arrow came sproinging right back at me!

Put some field tips on a dozen of these shafts today and shot for a while,They were grouping good and hitting hard .
I was shooting my 62 inch 55lbs at 28 inches pse Sable take down. With my 31 inch draw I am pulling around 70 lbs. Might just have to try some of those Javies out with it next week.

Picked up a new recurve today and tried some of the arrows out.

Backed up to twenty yards

I was plenty happy ,second time I have shot a re curve in five years.
Varmints are fixing to catch heck.
