Uncle John (
http://www.unclejohns.com/boat/ ) has pirogue plans or better yet ...his kits to use. His kits include the end pieces and the ribs for the boat which are the boats sections that require exact angle cuts. Then you need to get is two sheets of 1/4 inch plywood to make the boat.
To finish it then you need to either paint it or fiberglass it to protect the wood from the water , epoxy and fiberglass are recommended but some folks just paint theirs.
As Jack said , Matt at JEM Watercraft (
http://www.jemwatercraft.com ) has a wide assortment of boats a person can make and they are made from plans. I have made several of his boats and they are really nice ones. I especially like the Sasquatch Canoe that I have but that is a more difficult build then a Pirogue.
The guys like the Touring Pirogue Matt has and they are multi use boats , it would be a good boat to make but would require some help from Dad.
The most difficult part of making a wood boat is 1st deciding which one to make and after that decision is done the rest is quite simple since you just put all the parts together.
Believe it or not but we have had some folks join us and it took them up to 4 years to make a final decision on which boat they were going to make.
I normally suggest making a Pirogue 1st to learn the building and fiberglassing process.
