Coleman gas stove

Hey all.
I have a 30+ old 2 burner. It was acting pretty goofy so I got a
new generator from Colman. No good, wrong size. I took the old
one off and apart. Cleaned it up with brake cleaner and air. Now
it seems to work half axxed normal. Anyhow, anybody know about
these things? I don't. I was thinking take the burners out&apart
clean them too.

I have a Coleman double burner that is as old as your , actually older , almost 50 years. The generator went out so I called Coleman with the ID# and they had one generation in there stock , they shipped it at no charge to me. The lady I talked to had to agree with me about the stove being rather old , it was made before her time. :lol:

I also had several questions and they answered all of them for me , you might want to give them a call.

You may have some rust in the tank that is flaking off and getting into the system. Open it up, drain it dry, and peek in with a FLASHLIGHT. It would most likely be rusted on the bottom, where moisture would collect.

Get a roll of solid solder (no core of acid, flux, etc.) Using wire dikes, cut off a handful of short chunks, say 1/4" long. They will have two, sharp corners on each end.

Add a bit of kerosene and the solder to your tank. Shake it vigorously so as to scrape the chunks around the rusty spot, and all over the tank. Pour out a bit to see if you are loosening any rust. If it comes out clear, pour all out. Some solder chunks will remain in the tank, likely. No sweat; they won't be sucked up. Rinse out the kerosene at least once.

If you are removing rust, keep this up until it comes out clear.

CAUTION: Have a safety observer at hand with an extinguisher.

another maintenance tip is to take the burners themselves apart and clean out the rust collected there. They are in layers and easily separated.

Just do NOT allow Oldyaker near your tarp and your stove ... <weep> :wink:

Jack, I flushed the tank and tried, uh huh to look in thru that little
fill hole with a flashlight. I even put my glasses on. Looked ok, I guess
so. I'll try all the stuff you guys said. It seems working better after
I cleaned the generator. I imagine the burners got to have some carbon
deposits in them too. I'll clean everything. I priced a new on, whoa.

Coogs, You can bring it back to life, give it a good cleaning and some TLC.

I have one here that is older than Jack....unlike him it looks good and still works well.

I got it working pretty good. The packing on the valve was leaking
and it went up and turned into a fireball. Kinda exciting! Got the fire
put out and swapped the packing nut out and now it works.

i love tearing them apart and fixing them up. here's a $10.00 bargain i found at a yard sale. looked pretty rough and nobody wanted it. i saw the gem behing the grime...

thank you guys. i just enjoy tinkering around with stuff. i really the nostalgia and making things that someone would throw away, new again. plus, you just can't beat these old coleman camping appliances. i have a few old lanterns that i use as well.

HI, I loved that restoration job on that stove!!

I just replaced a generator on a similar stove.
I noticed that the needle sticks out of the end of the re-assembled unit. It fired right up but I would like a little more blue flame but i am not complaining...

Does this sound right?
