I always thought it would be cool to use some thin pvc and a hunk of canvas and make a jon boat into what would look like an old covered wagon for exactly those purposes. One could also zipper some doors into the side for stickin a fishing pole out. :)
{Mick & I will do "Filleting in the Nude - an anxious adventure"} Jack i'm seriously worried about you.
Good tips folks, I appreciate. Tape and squeezing it out the corner of a plastic baggy should help tremendously. I have the most trouble getting it stuffed into the cornor equally...
Anyone have or know of any good instructional videos on the art of fileting? Not filleting fish but the boat building filets. It seems I have a fair bit of trouble with it and just curious to see how other people do it. I figure I must be missing something important.
When I do it, I end up...
This is just me and many will say its wrong and others will agree with the method, but I had the same concerns as you and I built using the same method you described for my first piro.
I couldnt get chines installed as the wood kept snapping and it was to tough... My last build seems to be...
how about one of these
I've always wanted to build one myself but have way to many other unfinished projects. Its at www.woodenwidget.com if you want more info.
I just about spewed my mello yello all over the keyboard when I read that. Shhhhhh Don't tell. Its the newest form of alternative energy. Still in test form.
lol thanks for the compliments fellas. And yes JEM i've always been a lil lazy. I was just really feeling it today when it got windy and I was sick of beating myself up. I am supposed to register it in TN too. The water police are pretty cool and i'll wait for them to say something. If I...

Scooter, its all trial and error, I up until the other day only used a single paddle. I got tired of the water in my boat from switching sides so I learned the J stroke. Its not fast but it is effective in making you go straight and getting you there. I too only paddle on one side for hours...
I'm impressed chucky. You and Uncle John have a good thing going with that chair. Just gotta scrub it down with some sandpaper on the sharp edges and seal it and away I go. I purchased the plans yesterday and this afternoon I tackled it. Its a comfy one. Thumbs up.
Thanks for the compliments fellas....
The length point to point is 13' 9" and the width of the bottom center is 24". It was a cajun secret pirogue that I modified the plans on a bit. I wasn't able to use the suggested chine logs as I couldnt get them bent into shape, so I just ended up...
You'll get used to it. I did.
Also what I do to get in and out without it being tippy is to put it sidways to the shore... find a soft spot of beach to prop one side against then just step in closest to the side thats resting on the beach. It wont move even a lil bit. When your...
I've got this boat with the exact same motor. I can tell you, its got nothing to do with the graphite on the bottom that makes it hard to turn. I do the same thing with this boat which has an almost flat bottom at the transom. Cut back on the throttle, turn the wheel and hammer it. It'll cut...
I like the idea of doing both of these together. I would at least try something so your not completely throwing it away.
Cut 3/4 of the way through the ply along the center bottom of the outside of the boat... then bend it down with bracing blocks from theinside, fill the cuts with...
Well I normally skip over the long posts but that was downright entertaining... All except the part where you tipped over. Made me cringe a lil. Get well and thanks for the story. :)
