Wouldn't you think that a teepee made out of buffalo hide would weigh.... a LOT?!? I know they made them that way, it isn't like they had canvas or polytarp available. But good lord, what a heavy mess to have to lug around from place to place.
Is that a strap hooked to the C clamp, pulling the rub rail tight against the hull? I think I understand what I am seeing, but not sure. I haven't seen that trick before.

Ron was talking about using a machete to dig with - I'm assuming he uses it to chop up the earth so it can easily be scooped out of the way. Figured the woodsman's pal would do it better, plus do most of what you can do with a hatchet. Just an idea. I haven't tried it, though I do own the...
What about a Woodsman's Pal? Lighter, more versatile and more compact than an entrenching tool. Shorter and heavier than a normal machete. Brush hook could be used like a pick.

Right - I understand how you can manipulate the side flare to change the rocker, and how the shape of the side panels dictate some of it (excellent job describing it, by the way)
I just was curious as to how much rocker you are aiming for.
Looking forward to more pics as you progress. It is a...
Flotation should be sized and located so as to keep the boat floating and stable when swamped.
To tie in with what Jack said, it will not make the boat more difficult to swamp.
If you add, say, five pounds of foam to the boat, and locate it as high as possible in the hull, then you just lost...
We'll open a second story window at night at the right time of year, but doors stay locked, and the locks are well installed.
Chuck is probably right about the people getting invaded being logical targets, it makes sense and I'm sure he knows more about it than the average person considering...
I withdraw my suggestion. This is a family oriented forum. Can't have people running around putting beer on their members. Even if they are from Louisiana.

You probably drew in the 'coon with the same sardine oil that drew in the cats.
At my previous house, before I got married, I had about ten cats living in the back yard. They'd come out of the woods and I started putting out cat food because I kind of liked having them around.
The house was...
Did you try it with the spanner? Or are you assuming that tightening with the spanner will fix it?
I imagine the spanner will take care of it, but I'm wondering if you were able to prove it by using it. (I'm thinking about ordering one of these, so I am interested in your experience)

That is an excellent point. The person you elect to the county commission this year might make a good candidate for the state house two years from now, and then the congress, and so on.
We need to pay attention to the folks we elect to local offices. I admit that I've not always done that...
I listen to NPR a lot. Listen to Boortz and Limbaugh a lot, too.
NPR has the best quality news on the radio. A couple of hours and you have a pretty good idea what happened in the world that day. And I think that they at least attempt to maintain some objectivity in their reporting.
But the...
Got to find a major party candidate with Libertarian leanings. Many of the Tea Party types seem to fit that bill.
They (we) have to do a better job of picking candidates though. That O'donnel lady up in Deleware didn't have any business running for Senate. Just wasn't up to the job. Came...
The more I think about it, that was kind of rude. Sorry about that.
Here's the thing. Building a boat can be a lot of fun. I've built three. I'll probably build another one some time, not because I need another boat but because it is fun.
Building a boat COULD turn into a terrible...
I'm going to be blunt here. Considering the cost of plywood, epoxy, glass, and paint, trying to save the cost of a decent set of plans by going with a design from a self proclaimed amateur is damned foolishness. Particularly when you are doing your first build.
