    Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Greenland paddle

Yeah, I'm planning more Darth Vader pics for next Halloween, and that paddle will come in handy.

    Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Greenland paddle

I compiled my posts from another forum into a writeup on using a carbon/kevlar sleeve to cover a GP. You can find the link below. http://www.blackdogkayaks.com/anduril.html I used it at the pool last night and I really like how it feels. There is a certain traditional feel to a...

    Ice Paddling

I haven't been around here in a while, so I thought I'd show you what we do up here when we get Spring fever. This was last Sunday, out at Presque Isle in Marquette, my first time out on the open water this year. Seal launching was not the big deal that I thought it would be. Getting back...

My photos from the Ponchatoula Rendezvous

Thanks for the pics! It looks like it was a great time! I thought that hammock was Jack's new boat, until I read the text. It is kind of boat shaped though.

    Pool Session

-- I agree with DM's list of reasons to roll, esp. #2. Recalling our recent discussion of hypothermia, rolling is a good skill to have on cold water or in rough water. Hypothermia is another good reason also to have the Petrussen Maneuver because you sit basically dry inside the kayak...

    Pool Session

Actually, I drove out to Presque Isle last night on my way home. There were three ore boats tied up at the ore dock. I suppose they are waiting out the high winds on the Lake. The water was steaming and I was thinking that I should get my drysuit and give it a try on Sunday when the air temp...

    Pool Session

-- Anytime you leave the pool without drowning is a good pool session! This evening at the pool, which I had all to myself, I missed a roll and came up in the Petrussen and was just floating there, face up, kayak down with my ears under water and my back to the door of the pool area...

    Camoflage paddle

I agree with Jack. Scuff it up with sandpaper, then put on some epoxy. If you don't want to use graphite to make it black, they also sell a black liquid tint for coloring epoxy.

Touring Pirogue T-V AKA Brazos Queen

-- Or, maybe instead of a boat house, a houseboat?

    New Black Dog Completion

I haven't been to the Soo since I moved to the U.P. I was there when I was in college, but not to the Bush Plane museum. We were up to ski and to help keep LaBatt in business. We keep meaning to get up there though. One of these days. I'll add the museum to my list of things to do there...

    New Black Dog Completion

Another one! -- Light up another cigar - Black Dog Kayaks had another baby! Yellow seems to be the color for the Greenland Style Kayak, at least, the guys with the yellow kayaks are finishing theirs first. We've also shipped some black kayak skin so we should be seeing a couple more of...

    Gloves

I second the type recommended by Dangermouse. If I do a long warm weather paddle I wear my bicycle gloves, cut fingers, padded palm, synthetic materials. The palm is some kind of synthetic suede, but the gloves have held up for years on the trail and on the water. For cold weather, I'm...

Guess Who I saw at the Lake today?

Yup, all night long he kept coming to my house asking for candy.

Guess Who I saw at the Lake today?

You just never know who you're going to run into when you're paddling. And who'd have thought that the Dark Lord of the Sith would use a Greenland paddle? I would have figured him as more of a carbon fiber wing paddle kind of guy.

    New Black Dog Completion

Huh, that's funny, I never smoke more than one cigar ata time either. Although, I have been known to drink more than one beer at a time. Truthfully, I don't feel a day over 25 and, as my wife can vouch, I don't act a day over 25. Thanks for the belated Birthday wishes. Happy Birthday to...

What have I've been up to since December?

-- They can afford to borrow money to build docks like that. A farmer friend of mine told me once that farmers with those blue Harvestore silos don't have more money, they just have more debt. I'd think the same is true with many big boat owners. Okay, okay, I may be jealous, but my...

    New Black Dog Completion

Something doesn't seem right about letting someone else paddle my children... But, seriously, it does give me a mixed feeling of satisfaction and a little bit of apprehension, waiting to see how they'll turn out, so, yes, again, I guess it comes back to the analogy of having children . I...

Duck Works Magazine has sunk to a new low!!!

If you think that's a new low, I can bring them even lower: http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/07/out ... /index.htm Chuck's a great guy and, as has been pointed out, is always happy to publish pics of your boats. A lot of the work I see on here definitely rivals many of the boats featured...
