    New Paddling Partner.

G'day guys, Thanks all to for the very kind words and warm welcome back. I think for us, a good tent and air mattress are better options :D as are a small folding table and chairs etc etc etc hence the need for a bigger canoe. The Mary River has plenty of sand bars and other places suitable...

    New Paddling Partner.

Jack, Southwind will make a fine tandem day tripper, and mild water, tandem ,sea kayak but she lacks the necessary volume and load capacity to carry all we would need on such a trip. A much bigger, open canoe Like Sas 18 with a stated load capacity of around 800 pounds is a much better...

G'day guys, again. :D I forgot to mention that during our many talks yesterday, I just happened to mention wistfully, on how I had been trying to organise and prepare for a multi day expedition down the freshwater length of our Mary River. (probably about 200 river miles). Now, as I...

    A traditional Australian Rowing Skiff

G'day guys, Been a bit quiet here lately but that is hopefully about to change. As some might know, I have been working on a prototype, smallish, sea Kayak of Matt's design and I think she is going to be a winner in any company. A superb, low volume boat that will be very suited to day and...

G'day guys, Thanks for all the replies and for the sage advice too :D It seems, I am not 18 anymore  and my reflexes are waaay slower now than they once were. Ron, mate, I hear you loud and clear. 60 - 65mph is plenty fast enough for me on the best of roads - nevermind these other...

How long does it take a boat to rot?

G'day Matt, It was International, HT9000 epoxy. Mix ratio was 4 to 1. It was sold to me as marine epoxy but is now labeled as General purpose epoxy. Quite good to work with but has bad ammine blush problems. Seem to last pretty well though. 8)

How long does it take a boat to rot?

My first build was a Jem Swampgirl. I used cheap ply and cheap, non marine grade epoxy and the build itself was, at best, ordinary. I used the boat hard for a couple of years and then sold it to some people who have used and abused it much worse than I. It sits outside in the weather, and...
