    "FlyPly" Canoe

He is a very imaginative, and skilled builder. I almost expected to see two, or three, longitudinal slats glued along the center half of the floor. Dapper Al would likely have a keel strip glued along the mid portion of the outside. He likes a keel on his Puddle Ducks, and I would be cautious...

Sounds like a glow plug model airplane engine I used as kid.

I would think so, yes. Do you have a riding tractor to use when farming that flower pot?

    POCKET FARMING

Now, those are some interesting insights, JD. I hadn’t thought of it that way. I did add three peppermint plants today. I plan to dry some for tea leaves. Change usually struggles forward in starts and fits. Sometimes reversing, sometimes sidestepping, supposedly trying to move in a...

    POCKET FARMING

It is, I think, a uniquely fulfilling and satisfying activity to grow things. To have the faith to commit a “seed in hand” into the ground, in hopes of a larger reward in the future, is a true faith in Nature. It is also a lesson in delayed gratification. Since ancient man pretty much lived...

    POCKET FARMING

You may be the proud owner of the only 2 bushels of worthwhile soil in the whole state of Florida! Is manure from black cows better than that from, say, a red one?

    POCKET FARMING

I have a couple of plastic flower pots, semi buried in a flower garden. One is about 10” in top diameter, the other is about 18”. The smaller one now has ssge planted in it. In a couple of weeks, I’ll plant sweet basil in the other one. Both of these can propagate and continue to be there...

    Anchoring when fishing

On Michigan rivers, a lot of fishing boats drag a chunk of log chain about 4’-5’ long on a rope. It gives either a fairly stout anchor that may slowly creep, or if raised “a bit” will give a partially arrested downstream drift. It also serves to keep the boat streamlined in the current. Most...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

Oh - learn to do bow rudder and stern rudder strokes with the kayak paddle. Also, how to slip the blades in and out silently when you want to be sneaky.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

Way to go, Pete. It’s always nice to paddle a new boat! Or, a boat that’s an old friend. Once I started using a kayak paddle, I never looked back. Every boat, where you aren’t sitting in a stem end, paddles better with a kayak paddle. Twice as much paddle in the water, almost twice as often...

    A Loss

Jerry, I’m glad that my post was wrong. A couple of weeks ago, when you posted, I was very glad. I’d forgotten my post that you cited here.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

All that boat needs now is a man, a dog, and a few fisheys. And, maybe, a paddle - and lots of water around it. And, I’m betting that you have an idea or two about those things too. You get an atta boy, Pete.

"I've gotta be - shoveling off."

In sand, I don’t need even a trowel. Dapper Al has a lawn chair throne too. One time, he’d loaned it out, and getting it back to him presented a problem. I ended up loading it into the Ruptured Duck and flying it up to him.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

All of my boats were bright finished, natural wood. I varnished above the waterline for UV protection. The varnish didn’t come with drips and runs; I had to install those myself!

I admire your snow stake. By the way, WHERE in Florida did you buy that??? I also admire your pucker factor. Wandering around, trying to find a spot that’s private, easy to dig, and near a strongly rooted bush when I would prefer to NOT be doing those things, doesn’t meet my needs at the...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

On one of my kayaks, before adding the deck, I added white pigmented epoxy to the final coat of epoxy for the inside bottom. And pulleys in the stem ends. Long, circular ropes in the pulleys assisted getting the first items into and out of stem ends, and the white epoxy made it easy to see if...

    Waterproof Glue

The foaming will misshape a joint that isn’t clamped. I didn’t realize that it foamed. I threw it away and went bck to Duco or Testor’s model airplane glue for household repairs. They can be trusted to work. Gorilla can be trusted to mess it up - permanently.
