    Positioning the sides

Hi VTFogg, You had it in place like this (your pic shrunk a bit): Try turning it over and flipping it untill it fits like this: That should do it!

    wavy bottom edge

Hey Scooter, Nice recovery mate! You have pulled that back into shape better than I did. Next pirogue I am going to use your method!

    finished Chemaunis canoe

Hi Kurt, Did you cut those inner rails with a router yourself? I would guess that you did both at the same time with the inner faces together and then used a straight plunge cutter to cut both at the same time. Was that how it was done?

    wavy bottom edge

Hi Scooter. I had exactly that problem. I thought that this was caused by the smaller ribs being attached slightly too close to the centre rib so that it pulls the sides into this slghtly 'waisted' shape. Now having read Matt's post I think that he is right and that it was fine untill I put...

    Hairies South Wind (Southern Cross)

Hi Mick, 85gram! My supplier either sold me 120 g or 200g... could that be why I had trouble wetting through the fabric?

    Glassing the bottom?

OK thanks Jack. It's now 01:40 (yes that's AM!) so I'm going to go to bed now and stop worrying about it. I will check in the morning and dig out the macro lens to take a pic if necessary.

    Glassing the bottom?

Wel guys that was a nightmare! I did it in one hit which was not a problem in itself. The saturation coat was just about tacky still and I laid out the cloth as you suggested. I then mixed some resin and started to apply it. I put it on sparingly. Then I tried ladling it on. Then I tried...

Sanding and poxy flies... now epoxied flies

Hi Bearridge, Sadly I work in the City and had to mind some computers for the night. I'd rather build boats!

Different Pirogue prow and stem piece

Thanks Mick, Glassing the hull this weekend I hope although it's tricky in the space that I have and the forecast is for rain outside :( Then I can sort out the inside which I am looking forward to. Then the best bit... putting it on the water.

Sanding and poxy flies... now epoxied flies

I sanded the blood off before the epoxy! (nice new hardpoint saw which turned out to be a tad harder than the palm of my hand!).

Different Pirogue prow and stem piece

Fair point Bearridge but I think the wideangled lens made it look a bit lumpier than it really is. I am impressed with how little the pirogue weighs so far. I will try and get it on the scales before I glass it.

Sanding and poxy flies... now epoxied flies

I have spent the morning sanding. Having arrived home from work at 03:00 this morning I had the day to sleep at home. By mid morning I had had enough of lying around and thought 'BOAT!' I moved to a nicer neighbourhood a couple of years ago. Quiet leafy streets, some retired folk... and today...

    Glassing the bottom?

Just about to do the glassing... Matt et al. any last words? Hi everyone, Despite having first asked about glassing in September, I have finally reached the stage of actually doing it  Any last words? I know Matt suggested doing it in three sections. Is that front/middle/back with...

Different Pirogue prow and stem piece

Hi everyone, I have been looking at all the examples of UJ pirogues that I could find and wondering whether I could do anything to make the ends of the outer rails look smarter. The usual process seems to be to cut them off and just sand them down at the ends. I am not building true to the...

    finished Chemaunis canoe

Kurt, That is one pretty boat. If she paddles half as good as she looks you are set for some fine trips.

    Resin and hardner question????

'Tis true what Jack says... The Mosquito is the aircraft... a thing of beauty. Also I have calibrated pumps on my epoxy canisters. I usually do one pump of each, two of each for a big job. Last week I tried a three-of-each batch. After a few minutes I noticed that there was either smoke...

    A man came home...

A man came home from work to find his wife waiting for him in the doorway. She was wearing some slinky lingerie. She looked him up and down and said "Tie me up and you can do anything you want!" So he tied her up and went outside to work on his boat!
