    17# Pirogue

Good advice, Chuck, I'll have to remember that trick.

    17# Pirogue

One important note: if anyone builds one of these, use a drill motor with a wire wheel on the end of it to remove ALL of the oxidation from the aluminum trim coil before applying the resin/wood flour mix. I gave the edges around the side panels a nice clean, bright finish and she is water...

Found a few more pictures while going through my computer files. These are of the end pours I made while the boat was upright. You can see just how sleek she really is: End pour:

    Q re Pirogue Sides

The sides are 10" like the JEM plans call for. I made my bottom rail 1.5" wide and the top 1" wide. If I had to do it again I would find some clear cedar trim boards 10-12 ft.x6" and scarf them together then lay out the bottom rail the proper way using the JEM plans, then cut them out. That...

    17# Pirogue

I had all of my build pictures on one of my flash drives, and for the life of me I can't find it. I've looked everywhere (well, except wherever the flash drive happens to be). If I run across it I'll post the pics. Just found some on Photobucket that might help...

    Q re Pirogue Sides

Get your aluminum trim coil from Home Depot. It's on the roofing aisle and comes in a box. It's 24" x 50' long and is .019" thick. The thin stuff that Lowe's sells isn't what you want to use. There are a couple of build posts on this forum (including mine) that show the finished product...

    Galveston Tx

Did the Sargasso Sea move? Isn't that out in the Atlantic, somewhere? It's the same seaweed from the Sargasso Sea, which I understand is pretty huge. Don't know why so much broke off from the main body, but what you saw in the picture was nothing compared to what was on the beach a month...

    Galveston Tx

The wife and I went down to Galveston early this morning to walk on the beach, no fishing. We got there early, but the beach was completely covered with Sargasum seaweed. It was a huge problem earlier this Spring, and I'd heard it was getting better.....NOT!! What a mess, the stuff stinks...

    jem TV pirogue

Great looking build and I love the camo job. I looked at Black Jack Camo web site and couldn't find the one you used. Which one was it, please?? I've built two JEM touring pirogues and want to build another, and for sure I'm gonna put some camo on it like yours. Sweet job, I'm proud of you.

I think you'll do better with a V bottom, it'll keep the boat tracking arrow straight when you stop paddling to cast your bait, or....just stop paddling. Matt will send you the plans for one for a very small offering. All of my plastic kayaks immediately veer either right or left when I stop...

    17# Pirogue

I could have made one like the original model, which was make two straight identical rails with 45° bow and stern, put them together and see what you get. I chose to go with a proven platform, the JEM Touring Pirogue with a V bottom. Took the measurements from the plans and it was simple to...

    17# Pirogue

The length came in at 14'-11". Don't know how I lost an inch but I did. Haven't weighed her yet, but I can easily pick her up with one hand. First chance to weigh her I'll do it and get back with you. That seat is from an Ultimate 14.5 tandem. I sold the boat and kept one seat. Best kayak...

    17# Pirogue

Messed up on posting these pictures the first time but I have it now. Finished the aluminum-on-frame pirogue and I've had her on the water a few times now. All I can say is that she is SWEET !! Because of some of my mess up's along the way I had to modify but she turned out OK anyway. Sort...

    Free to good home

I have in my possession 2 sets of full size drawings for the temp frames (bulkheads) for a Merlin 16' strip built canoe. These are the frames that go on the strong back that the strips are attached to. Northwest Canoe gives the one funny layout drawing away free and a buddy of mine and myself...

    New Boat

I used a wire wheel on my drill motor to get the oxidation off of the bare aluminum trim coil. I then wiped the aluminum and the wood with acetone, then painted some clear resin on the wood that the trim coil would attach to, then mixed up some resin with wood flour, not too thick so it could...
