I've been thinking of picking up a decent air rifle for plinkin' and maybe critters while camping. Having never owned one, I know nothing about guns or rifles whatsoever. Anybody have some suggestions/resources to get me started?

Thanks!

Friend Aaron,

Lately me'n Tom both been tryin' ta answer that question fer several folks. Good news iz Tom knows a heap. Bad news iz neither one of us haz kept up with the decline in quality.

A heap a folks figger a magnum powered airgun iz best. We dont. Mite az well use a .22 rimfire with CB longs, shorts 'er subsonic bullets, less ya aim ta shoot somewhere it iz jest agin the law ta shoot a firearm. A town gun oughta be low power 'n quiet. [We hear they got towns that dont allow airguns, but I aint sho that iz true.]

If ya jest aim ta shoot in the woods where ya camp, yer choices go way up. I figger ya aint lookin' fer a PCP (compressed air gun), which leaves those one cock [That word dont make no sense. I reckon the High Sheriff haz a holy roller software that wont let ya post some words on here....like cock a trigger, or the rooster that goes cock a doodle doo, or wont let a fella go off half cocked] springers 'n multipump pneumatics. Gamo iz cheap, both in price 'n in quality. So far I never heard Tom praise any modern American airgun.....cept the Red Ryder. The Brits 'n the Germans seem ta do best. Beeman, RWS Diana 'n BSA have some that dont cost two legs 'n a arm. I think a Benjamin Sheridan should git a look.

Here iz a spot where ya kin browse 'n find some good info.

This one too, but it seems most of the ole salts musta moved on. Lotta new fellas askin' some strange questions gittin' some mitey strange answers. A handful of these guys really know what they are talkin' bout.

Here iz two fellas who seem ta be decent. Buyin' a airgun frum folks who dont know nuthin' bout airguns iz a mistake in my book.

Woodrow Call: That was a dang stupid thing to do--bringing that old sign along--you'll have us the laughing stock of the whole country--with that--we don't rent pigs part.
Gus McCrae: Well, we don't rent pigs. I figured it's better to say it right up front--'cause a man that does like to rent pigs is--is hard to stop.
Woodrow Call: If that ain't bad enough you got all those Greek words on there too--
Gus McCrae: I told you Woodrow a long time ago it ain't Greek -- it's Latin.
Woodrow Call: What does it say in Latin?
Gus McCrae: Well, it's a motto--it just says itself -uva uvam vivendo varia fit....
Woodrow Call: You don't have any idea what it says--you found that in some old book or something-- for all you know it invites people to rob us.
Gus McCrae: Well, the first man that comes along that reads Latin is welcome to rob us as far as I'm concerned. I'd like the chance to shoot at an educated man once in my life.

Friend Arrondo ('n the rest of ya'll lookin' fer a first rate airgun),

Take a look at the BSA Lightning XL in .22. http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/

If ya kin find a Sportsman's Warehouse, I hear they sell 'em a bit cheaper.
