Mac & Cheese the Oldsparkey way.
This is what I was raised on and like to cook , even more eating it.
1. 16 oz package Mac
2. 3 tablespoons butter
3. 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
4. 2 cups shredded extra sharp cheese
5. 2 cups of milk
6. 1 baking dish , pot or container.
Wash your hands and dry them , no nose picking at this point or rear end scratching..............
1...Grease the bottom and sides of the baking dish , I like Crisco.
2...Cook the Mac till it is almost tender , drain and put in the baking dish.
3...Melt the 3 tablespoons of butter being careful not to burn it.
4...When the butter is melted remove from the heat and add the flour , stirring it together, then add the milk still stirring it.
5...Add the cheese and put back on the heat , stir till the cheese melts. Salt and pepper it to taste.
6...Add the sauce you just made to the Mac in the baking dish , mix well.
7...Add a little more shredded cheese to the top of what you have.
Optional step....Take a zip lock bag , add a handful of crackers ( salteens) mush them up and put them over the cheese you just put on the top of the Mac & Cheese. ( Make sure you take the cracker crumbs are out of the bag) Add some shavings from a stick of butter over the crackers if you use them.
Put it in a 350 oven for about an hour or till the top has a nice brown crust over it. Remove and enjoy but look out it will be hot ( temperature wise) and one of the good parts is the crust over the top , nice and cheesy.
Chuck
PS. Left over ham chunks in there is a good way to have a one pot meal.
