Micks post got me to thinking and I got to digging out in the shed this morning. Knew I had an old one around here somewhere.....
Its an old SVEA 123. I think I picked it up at a yard sale sometime a while back( years ago) and used it a couple of times. This little thing is pretty cool!

Just like Mick's stove. You put a litle denatured alchohol in the base and it heats up the tank and pressurizes it.( sorry, blurry)

Turn the little church key to the left and whoosh! Its lit!

Its off to the races.... Full blast to simmer and back. pretty smooth. It is noisy though! Link to a video

It came with two little pots, a skillet and the pot mover.

All fits together nice and neat.

Think I'll start toting this one along as well...

swamprat, i bought my first Svea 123 back in 1969 or so, for $16.95 from REI. It is still running, has been everywhere and saved my butt a number of times. Yup, it is noisy , makes me think of all the good food i have had courtesy of that little stove. I have since bought several more and given them as gifts. Mine still packs out with me in the travel trailer and when we evacuate for hurricanes.

Jack, if I get to paddle with you and Jdupre' in february my Svea 747 will be there too.

"The Optimus Svea is a liquid fuel stove made by Brunton."
Google will turn up quite a few sellers.

Yeah, Optimus Svea. I found either (A) crappy descriptions, or (B) several models of the stoves.

"Backpacker", "Climbing Stove", "Model 123R"

No one seems able to answer if they are the same, or different stoves.

I'm inclining towards getting one, if I cna figure out what "one " is.

The 123R seems to be the same stove. Brunton apparently sold Optimus to another company in 2005. Brunton has the manual for the stove on their website, but don't sell the stove. According to http://www.optimus.se, They are now owned by a Swedish company ThinkOut. Brunton has a better manual on their site than Optimus does.

OK, I ordered a Svea Optimus 123R. My poor, old, Coleman single burner stoves were a reliable companion. But, they became unreliable and faulty, leaky (spurted raw fuel out the vent in the air pump!), unable to maintain a low flame. (humming Taps, here)
