Been building an electric bicycle! 26" fat tire w/ 1200 watt rear drive wheel and I built a 48 volt 28ah lithium Ion Battery. Plenty of power for uphill climbs. The bike runs 15 mph and with a little assist it will run 26mph. 50 mile range on a single charge! Pics coming!
Finished! The inside is smooth, no laps. The gunnels fit together instead of the plywood showing inbetween them. That is the difference between this and the CLC builds. The 2 paddles were made by JD Sibley from 5/4 ash lumber. Pictures coming!
This is a Geodesic Aerolite SOF design canoe.
14' long, 33" beam, 1 1/2" rocker and around 27lbs.
All white oak strips with Black Walnut seats, thwarts & Breast hooks.
It will be finished with Kevlar thread diagonally wrapped and Dacron cloth.
Bought Beekeepers Bumble Bee and totally rebuilt the hull (rotten wood/wet foam) with composites, updated and polished. It looks like a new boat, even though it is a 1999.
Here is the link to all the photos of this long project. Please enjoy. http://s786.photobucket.com/user/mac161 ... t=2&page=1

Looks like I might be putting my (plans) on hold for awhile and build this boat for someone else. I will know for sure in a couple of weeks after I get the plans and we come to agreement.
You may see this one in Lake Ponchatrain.

I have only used copper wire and drill 1/16" holes. I run my fillets down the seam and over the wire. After it cures I have no problem pulling the wires out. Even though all the plans say to not cover the wires, because they are hard to pull. Not true Or maybe it depends on the epoxy you use!
I...
Planning to start this boat before long.
It is 16-10", 37" beam, 7'-6"cockpit.

But I plan to modify it a little bit.
Make it lighter
Put the trolling motor in a tunnel (even with the bottom)
Designer cypress strip top
Should be alot lighter...
I used this on my latest build. I used Interlux before, but it showed brush marks and had to be sanded before the next coat.
The above paint is pretty much the same as interlux, but it does not have to be sanded between coats and there are no brush marks when applied. (Love it)
Also used West...
Just ordered all the materials and cut out the plywood for a strongback.
The boat will be stich and glue okoume and have a Sapele or strip top?
15'-6" long x 27" wide (up too 275lb. paddler) The boat is also self draining.
Pics coming soon.
Need your inputs on what to use for the shaft of a double bladed paddle?
I built the blades but am trying to decide on the best material to use for the shaft.
Thought about carbon fiber, fiberglass or wood.
Leaning toward carbon fiber tape and wrapping it around a 1" pipe for the mold...
