Florida Springs and Chattooga with the kids

yep, put in at Earls and took out at Sandy. One of the best days of paddling the family has had. The wife said, "when I had kids, this is the day that I imagined". Don't know if the rains have stopped since it's cloudy again today, but it sure has filled Fontana and made the river folk happy.

    The Great S.P. Rendezvous 2009

I've been following the preparations and talk with great envy. Just too much on my plate to make the trip, but I'll tell you, I wish I could have. Sounds like a great weekend with everything that makes one. So, the question is, what about next year? Same place, same time? I'll have less...

Saw these 2 while out this past weekend

Can't say I ever saw any camels while paddling. I've seen a lot of different things over the years and travels, but the most worriesome was a time I was in Chile (see Tall Tales post) paddling the Maipo river just south of the capitol. We were about to enter a small, sheer wall gorge and needed...

Saw these 2 while out this past weekend

funny that's what I was sorta doing, but not in my boat. There was a little bit of a levee and they were playin on the other side. At the end of the video they jumped in the water and swam away...I snuck around and outa sight. Came up on them about 60 yards further down on the bank again. They...

Saw these 2 while out this past weekend

pests I bet they could get to be pests quick. Beaver are the same and as you mentioned the Nutria back home quickly become unwanted...but can make a good stew. Saw lots of beaver sign around the area so I'm sure they're there doing their thing too.

    Tales from Lake LeBarge....

Robert Service Now, seeing this post reminded me of a poem about Lake Lebarge. I imagine this is what is referenced in the post. My dear wife related this wonderful tale on one of our first winters together while we were selling Christmas trees and watching the ice form on everything around us...

    Black vulture.

couple questions Just a couple questions that came to mind when I read this 1. I'm guessing it died on impact, but have to ask if it was flapping and such as it came in. Either way, it had to be one of those what the heck is going on moments...confusion...glass..blood everywhere. My...
