That works here as well, just not for me... yet. We have a brand known locally as a Vudu (pronounced voodoo) shrimp, clear with chartreuse

Finally slimed!! Took 3 trips but finally caught a fish. Guess the fact that it took me so long to actually catch a fish means I need more practice.

That is considered the "cockpit". Angles that way for drainage with a scupper to either side of the ridge. It has support structure underneath and is not the bottom of the boat. Sorry for any confusion.

Can't really explain that Jack! It's the way it happened. I'm sure it is more my lack of knowledge and experience in kayak building than any inherent design. http://www.jemwatercraft.com/Sabalo.php Looking at the page above, perhaps it was designed to be a flatter bottomed boat. Anyhow...

For those who are interested, she is no Nick Schade built boat, but she is really easy to paddle, tracks straight, which surprised me despite the imperfections. The scuppers were a pain and leaked at first. I re-applied epoxy with fillet material to keep it from running out and onto the floor...

First fishing trip was yesterday to Cypremort Point State Park. The winds were SUPPOSED to be between 11-14 mph, by 10:30 they were at 18. Another guy in a Hobie was struggling to peddle off that beach. Coming in at 2pm was interesting for a new guy like me. However, the boat road the waves...

Since you fellas have been doing this far longer than I have you know how boring and tedious the back and forth between sanding and epoxy application is. We'll after all that came 4 our 5 coats of Captains spar varnish, which equals more sanding in between coats, though to be fair only light...

At this point the decks were attached and fiberglassing had begun on the interior. Yet another round of epoxy application and sanding smooth. I think I glossed over the sanding warning in the beginning.

Taking the pretty shine off... After the required amount of coating with epoxy it was time to start the smoothing and fairing. Once again, not perfect. I was able to find the high and low spots in the hull with all the hand rubbing and wiping. Tried wet sanding for a time but that was a mess...

Yes to all Jack. Took great care in that leveling step. It may be my picture taking skills because it looks wonky to me as well. Trust me, hours went into leveling and tightening and loosening and re-wiring and starting all over. It is not perfect by far, but was a straight as a newbie could...

After the struggle. Some may notice that the blue color didn't stay. That was intentional to a point. I had done some LIGHT sanding to expose the wood. I wanted people to know it was wood. During the epoxy pour some of the color came out as I was spreading. Icould see it in the epoxy I...

Was very nervous about this part, even when I was only at the wood cutting stage. By this point that internal structure has been wrestled into place and filleted in. It was my first time glassing and it would have been easier with help. Small batches of epoxy and try not to overwork it is...

If anyone still cares about this build, let me catch you up. Covid nor hurricanes got me though they tried. They did keep me busy, but in between the busy, I kept building. This is a pic of the interior support structure of the boat. This was fiddly, lots of measuring to get straight and...

@tbon56- my middle name should be"improvise", heck it should probably be my first name!! Lots of wire tightening and loosening to go to get her straight and right, but the hull has taken shape. She was flat panels and lots of doubt on Sunday. :p

My thoughts exactly, Jack, and I am building it. They are indeed bits of a boat, the "cockpit" as Matt calls it. I am confident there will be a hull soon to prove it.

No pics this time. Just a quick line to say that I was pretty sure that Matt over at JEM had sold me one of those 3D puzzles of The Eiffel Tower or something. I could not see how those pieces of plywood could possibly fit together with those crazy curves. Well, they do fit together as I started...

Had to go get this pic. Sitting a bit wonky and not quite straight since I was fiddling with it. LOTS of measuring and time goes into this piece alone. Fillets IN the scuppers. These are maybe 2 1/2" square! Jumbo craft stick to accomplish this. Have to glass these eventually. :confused...

Don't tempt me. Having enough issues staying focused on just this one. But I have been busy early this a.m. Had my fist go at glassing. Started with a couple of fillets. Didn't quite mix enough wood flour in, it seemed a bit loose, but it stayed in place so I went with it. Then the real...

Most of my projects are built just shy of ugly, but to perform well at their task. I decided to go a different route with this. I figured this may be the only ;) boat I EVER build, so why not make it nice, or at least not plain. Turns out, I enjoyed the strip work using my small hand plane...

Thanks Jack. Well, I have still been working at it. Been making dust and wood chips with a planer. Managed to put together the three decks this weekend even though it was Easter. The trim pieces are maple while the strips are cedar and cypress. The small mid deck to the left has a piece of...
