The gas is CO--carbon monoxide. It will also turn you red as it kills you. Tomatoes treated this way are safe to eat, they just taste like crap. :mrgreen:
Marine bronze is best. Do not use brass if you ever intend to use the boat in salt water. All that polished "brass" on Navy ships is really manganese bronze.
Mine is and has been stored out in the sun with no damage for the last 3 years. It is upside down on a trailer. Only one coat of 20% graphite/80% epoxy over the glassed bottom. The grain of the plywood is still visible through the finish.
