I enjoy catching and releaseing Alligator Gar and wife has been after me for awhile to take her on a day trip. We got up early this morning and hit the one of my favorite spots along the Middle Brazos for a day of fun. I love to paddle in the early mornings, it is almost always quite and calm...

    NorthWind Finally.....

The third coat of epoxy set up well today in the heat. I reinstalled the forms in preperation for stripping the deck, which I will start tomorrow evening or Monday. Went to Lowes this evening and found some really nice Cedar that has a good color. I am running several different patterns through...

    NorthWind Finally.....

Work is finally slowing down some so I have had a little time to get back to work on the NorthWind. I finished sanding the interior to night and layed the fiberglass in the boat. It was still early so I said what the heck and started epoxying the fiberglass. It feels good to finally have time...

    NorthWind Finally.....

The wood was soaked with hot water to swell the brad nail holes closed. i have done this on all stripped boats and decks without any problem. Just give a few days to dry before glassing. The way the pattern was on the glass it was diffently a problem with the glass. It had a white strip every...

    NorthWind Finally.....

I'm still alive, barely. I don't know what I had but I have not felt that bad for a longtime. Gonna give it another day or so and then I promise to get back to building on the Northwind.

I wiggled it, shook it, cussed at it, drank a beer, wiggled some more, drank a beer, cussed a little more, drank a beer, shook it some, drank another beer and then it came off of the forms :D . Started sanding the inside and I am very impressed with the weight so far.

    NorthWind Finally.....

Jack, The glass came in a roll and was wrapped in paper, which i did not unwrap until I was ready to drape it on the boat. It is 6oz s-glass which is what i have always used without any problems. i don't know guess it was just one of those things that happen sometimes.

    NorthWind Finally.....

New glass is down with a saturation coat. I will do a fill coat tomorrow and see for sure how it is going to look, but i think it will be fine. I can see it because I know it is there, but I don't think the seam will jump out to someone who does not know that it has been spliced.

    NorthWind Finally.....

It's going pretty good. The fiberglass comes off pretty easy once heated up. I am taking my time and being careful with the wood underneath. Should have the rest off later today and the remaining epoxy sanded smoothe. The rest of the boat looks great though.

    NorthWind Finally.....

I have always posted the good along with the bad. Well I have a problem, seems the first four feet or so of the fiberglass was contaminated or something. About every 12 inches or so i have a stripe that did not wet out properly. It is very uniform in the distance and shape of the area involved...

    NorthWind Finally.....

It was pretty warm today so I got out to the shop and gave her a good soaking with hot water to help close the brad nail holes and any small cracks. I like this stage because this gives a good preview of what she will look like after fiberglass. Stems are pretty well done, just a little final...
