    I'm in Big Trouble

I told her she was going to have some epoxy under those fingernails before it was finished.

She's gonna have to wait for a while. We have some miles to cover in the NWs.

So, I'm going to tall her if she doesn't like it it's Matts fault.

    I'm in Big Trouble

Wife and I went out to eat earlier and on the way home she said " You know, your boat turned out really well. Every one you build gets better. I can't wait to see what mine looks like".

    NorthWind Finally.....

If anyone tried to hurt this boat intentionally y'all would have to take a collection up to get my butt outta jail. P.S. As much as I love my Freedom I think it may be time to update my profile pic.

    NorthWind Finally.....

It's a long drive from Greensboro, maybe I should just burn it to save us all the trouble of having to deal with it.

    NorthWind Finally.....

Varnish is done and I am going to start rigging tomorrow. Took a few tries to get the varnish down without any bugs or too much dust but it finally worked out. I think I am going to run the hatch straps a little different than normal. What do think?

    NorthWind Finally.....

It's plenty warm in the shop this afternoon. Gave the boat a quick light sanding with 320 grit. I sprayed another fairly heavy coat on, and it was looking great. I was thinking this might be it, no bugs, no dust, no trash and slick as glass. Then I walked around to the other side and there...

    NorthWind Finally.....

Second coat is on. I'll let it dry all day tomorrow and give it a light sanding when I get home. If it is early enough for it to skin over before dark I will shoot another coat on, if not I'll wait until Thurs. morning. The bugs are pretty bad once it gets dark. It's looking pretty good, only...

    NorthWind Finally.....

Went out after work and gave the boat a quick sanding to rough up the epoxy a little so the Varnish will adhere better. I shot the first coat of varnish about 6:15 and will probably give it a second about 8:00. It's getting mighty close to paddle time.

    NorthWind Finally.....

Thanks Jack. I have high hopes for this boat and I think Matt does to. This is the nicest boat I have built so far. If the varnishing and rigging go well I may get to paddle her next weekend. Everyone who comes by the shop says I need to go ahead and test paddle her, Nope, not till she is...

    NorthWind Finally.....

It's almost time to make her really shine. Hatch lips are installed and the boat is ready for varnish. Just need to give the epoxy time to cure a bit. It won't be long and I will give her the maiden voyage. I am getting pretty excited about paddling this boat.

Got a little more done this evening. Rails for seat are tacked in place. Cut the spacers for the front and rear hatch. Tomorrow I will cut and install the lip that the hatch covers sit on.

    NorthWind Finally.....

Graphite impregnated epoxy serves two purposes. The first is it is a visual wear indicator ,when you can see the wood thru it it is time to recoat before you have damage to the fiberglass and the second is once it is scuffed up just a little it is as slick as snot. I went back out to the shop...

    NorthWind Finally.....

Well I took a deep breath and took a saw to her today. Both hatches are cut. All I need to do now is install the lip around both of them.

    NorthWind Finally.....

I have been working on the boat, but not really a lot to update. I have been putting on the fill coats epoxy (to fill the weave of the fiberglass) and then sanding it back off and repeat to smoothe everything out. I have also been building the coaming around the cockpit which I finished earlier...

    NorthWind Finally.....

The boat has two fill coats on the fiberglass and is looking pretty good. I will give it a good sanding tonight to get all of the imperfections out and then one more coat of epoxy. Before I give it the final coat of the epoxy though I am going to put the coaming around the cockpit also. I set it...
