that is really good idea, I use zero clearance on my circ and my table saw. Never even thought of it for my jig saw.
Compromise...I shall still buy the Japanese saw to start them out with hand tools then move them up to the jig saw on sheet #2 and let them choose which method they prefer...
not talking from experience Jack, we did use heavy Ziplock brand bags. They softened quite a bit but held up well. Just figured it would be good advice, Not sure if the cheapies would hold up well.

I've been experimenting with my jig saw and different blades but find tearout to be an issue. Not to mention I'll be allowing my daughters to do some cutting and would really like to start them on hand tools to gain an appreciation, prior to graduating to power tools.

OK, almost at the point of cutting panels.
My last boat, a UJ Pirogue, was all straight lines so a table saw was the ticket.
These boats have gentle curves, what is your tool of choice and why do you choose said tool?

The omelet in a baggy does indeed work excellent however we learned a few lessons:
Don't let the baggy hang over the side of the pot or it will melt, just drop the whole thing in the water.
Use quality bags...brand...
I will post a report on Tuesday, we are going all out this trip with dutch oven cooking and fun things like the bag omelet and a few other neat things the kids will love. We have the Grangparents with us this trip too so should be fun
my wife on occasion has called me a horses ass, how can I figure that into the equation? Is it actually a compliment??? I now believe it may just be and she doesn't even know it. HA!
turning the boat upside down was a thought but I figure I'll go with another rope. I do plan on putting bungy on the deploy rope so when being retracted the bungy will hold pressure on it to soften the wack on the deck. There will be a "V" block for stowing as well.
