    Started the Sasquatch 14 x 30 build.

Chuck; I think every time you mention the weight of this build you should also include an asterisk next to it. You are building it out of special order 3mm ply, and Matt advertises his kits with 4mm. Not much a a weight difference between the two, but enough that it should be noted. And...

    Started the Sasquatch 14 x 30 build.

Heres a link to something I found on the System 3 website. http://www.plasticareinc.com/SystemThree_Fillers.htm Gives good descriptions and uses for, wood flour, fumed silica (cab-o-sil), phenolic microballoons, quartz microspheres, graphite powder and more. DM mike

    Started the Sasquatch 14 x 30 build.

Jack; Just did some quick weighing with the digital scale. Took a 1/3 cup measuring cup and zeroed out the scale with it on. Scooped the cup full of wood flour leveled it of with a knife across the top. Weighed it and it came in at .41 oz. Did the same with micro balloons (I dont have any of...

    New Canoe Plans: Sasquatch 14-30

Or you could just put over lapping strips of packing tape on the plexiglass. Thats the way I do it, but I just put strips of tape down on my work table under the area that is going to be epoxied. And then a some strips on a wood board that I am going to use to clamp down with. DM mike

    Finally planning a trip...

A chickee is a type of home invented by the Northern Seminole tribe. Chickee is the Seminole word for "house". The chickee style of architecture - palmetto thatch over a bald cypress log frame - was born during the early 1800s when Seminole Indians, pursued by U.S. troops, needed fast...

    Boy Scout build

Too; While you are at it, if you tape a piece of Onion skin to a carrier sheet of paper, you should be able to run that thru a computer printer. Using WORD or some program, you could make a nice little piece with the troop number, logo, date and maybe even all the kids names and laminate that...

    Stickers and such?

I have not used rice paper yet, the Heavy Silky Paper is like a synthetic rice paper, I put it between the wood and the cloth, but just putting a coat or two of epoxy over it would work. Tho, you would have to be careful if you do any sanding (for varnishing or for re-varnishing later) over top...

    Stickers and such?

Here is a sample of stuff I have done. The JEM logo and serial number thing were scanned into the computer and then printed out on the medium. The fish was airbrushed on. The medium is Heavy Silky Paper, same stuff used for artwork on surfboards. Laminated between the wood & the fiberglass...

    Another wasted evening

Got to be more to it than that. Since last August, the price of a barrel of oil increased by about 45%, while in the same time frame, the value of a US dollar has decreased by 11%. DM mike

    Please enlighten this dummy!

S & G = Stitch & Glue, the building method in which wood panels are "stitched" together using wire or cable ties to hold the shape, and then the seams are "glued" with a fillet of epoxy. After the epoxy hardens the wires/cable ties are removed, the epoxy fillets now hold the shape. SOF = Skin...

These plastic boats have run into rocks, stopped by rocks, slid over rocks, landed on rocks, hung up on rocks and bounced off of rocks, PLENTY since I have owned them PLENTY more before I have owned them. FAR from worn out, not a single split or crack in the hulls yet, Plenty of scrapes &...

    Wood Boat Repairs.

Ouch!!!! What Seedtick & Jack said is pretty much what I would suggest. Dry it out, push on the fracture from the inside to make it flat (if its not) epoxy a backing panel on the inside, put cloth over that. Sand down and re-enforce the outside with another layer of cloth, no need for the...
