I have put seat tracks down for three positions. Don't know how the boat would handle three adults, but that is not what the middle position is for. I plan on training solo some so I wanted the option to be open. Tracks may help with some minor oil caning in the middle I have seen on the...

Had a good training run last night with foot braces moved, I think it will be a little weird to have rudder controls on the foot braces but i guess I will get used to it. Putting on rear deck soon and mounting rudder. Here is the frame for the rear deck Here is the rear deck dry fit just...

    New with lots of ????

Get yourself some poster board and make a quick model. All you really need is the sides and connect them at each end with tape. With this you can play with bottom width and see how this effects the rocker. I think the amount of side flair has more to do with increasing and decreasing the...

    Canoe Carts

I have one of those deer hauler carts. Two big solid rubber bicycle tires with ball bearings. I drilled a couple extra holes in it and I can transform it to a canoe hauler in a few minutes. It is steel and quite heavy though. I use it to get the boat down a long road to get to duck water...

This race requires a strong commitment, to the race and to your partner. Finding another partner within 60 days of the race is not an option and going solo is not something I want to do either. We learned a lot with this incident about ourselves and each other. My partner handled the near...

Yep, the river level was at 19 ft. That is about 4 ft under flood stage. The buoys get pulled under in current like that. I saw it bobbing when we were quite a ways away (2-3 hundred yards) from it and warned my partner, then proceeded to move my seat cause he was complaining about the bow...

You do not have to believe I turned over a TV cause we really didn't. It never went all the way over, just swamped and rolled us out. Long story short, a ten foot tall ton of steal river buoy disappeared right in front of us and reappeared just as we passed over it. Hit us in the side right...

Right KJ, I am wanting to keep the tethers as few and as short as possible. Yep, little triangles or round blocks is what I was thinking too.

I could probably get by with just epoxy on this cypress. That is as far as I have made it on the seat feet. This 1.4 oz cloth I have fills easy though and will not add much weight and I think I have sanded the two surfaces enough that there is enough slop in the fit to allow for the glass...

Got the new seat bases and sliding tracks put in place. The tracks and seat base sides are made of cypress I will probably put a thin layer of 1.5 oz cloth over the bottom of the seat feet and on the inside of the track.

What knife do you carry on or with you?

I have carried a pocket knife every day of my 48 years it seems. I have found what I think is the perfect everyday knife, it just works for me. The swiss army Spartan. Knife holds a shaving edge pretty well and every other tool on the knife has been used and done a good job. Especially the...

It will have two seats. I will be in the rear mostly. I should have pictured it with seats. I just got the seat tracks that will be attached to the bottom for the seats to ride on. I am making new seat bases. These custom additions feel like they are taking longer to do than it did to...

Got the middle section done. I have not taken photos of how I attach the stays. They are just simple PVC water pipe. I made little blocks and drilled a hole in them to hold the pipe. I used 5 minute epoxy to stick them to the inside of the gunnel. I shot this photo before I put a cap on...

    Racing pirogue slimed

There were some nice ones. I think the biggest was over 12 inches. Only threw back one or two I deemed too small for filleting. Cloudy day so they were biting a little slow. Used tube jigs under a bobber about 12 to 16 inches. This method works great specially with a fishing boat you have...

    Racing pirogue slimed

I am usually quite attuned to finding antlers, don't know how I missed it, I saw it on the ground in front of her from 40 yards away when she called out "look what I found" Better her than I anyway, I have enough of an antler collection I don't know what to do with. We also heard a loon (a...

    Racing pirogue slimed

Got her slimed pretty good Sunday. Crappie, mushrooms, and a trophy deer skull. Only way you could have a better spring day in Missouri is if you shot a turkey too. We went on a little training run, paddled about 4 miles and had to make a couple stops at fishing holes and walk a creek valley...

    a full house...

I think you could build the Duck works John a lot lighter with proper amount of bracing. If you used luan instead of 3/8th ply. Seems like the description of the plans is a bit old fashioned thinking. Yes, that is the way they used to be built. But with good modern materials and the right...

Nope, the design I am formulating is not too restrictive. I thought about making an actual custom spray skirt but it would actually be dangerous. The way I am designing it we will pop right out if we capsize. There is no way we could ever possibly accomplish a double ekimo roll even if this...

Update on splash cover. Wow met up with my partner for a training session yesterday. Big Corps Lake, 30 mph winds, partner drove 2 hours to get there, we gave it a go. We survived. We speared 2 ft waves over and over the splash cover preformed very well, without it we would have been...
