    Order some 1.5 OZ cloth

Not really a question just advice to all boat builders. I used 1.5 OZ cloth on my last build, I was going for making the boat as light as possible for racing. I did use 6 oz cloth to tape all seems in and out but interior and exterior large surfaces were all 1.5 oz. I just completed my first...

    Dream trip

All my pics of BWCA are from 30 years ago and not in digital form. The BWCA is pretty famous for canoeing. I have been twice. The first trip was a "Outward Bound" type trip with a youth group when I was in high school. We traveled about 12 miles a day, made a big loop and set a new camp...

    Dream trip

Along the lines of more reasonable dream trips.....I have been wanting to go back to the BWCA again. Haven't done it since I was 20. Sure would be cool to get a bunch of geezers in wooden boats organized on a trip there next summer. Any takers? The bigger the group the farther in advance you...

    Dream trip

Dream Trip.......NOT The make up race on the KAW (kansas river) I will be doing the 22nd. Not a river I have ever had much desire to run but as my partner says it will be an adventure. New Pacific Paddle arrived to my doorstep today, looking forward to getting home and check it out. Less than...

    Dream trip

I am signing up for Ron's trip down the Missouri. I wanted to do the Missouri in Missouri from Iowa line to St. Louis a long time ago and then they started this MR 340 race from KC to St. Louis 6 years ago and I wanted to do that. I am a doing that one this year if they ever get it rescheduled...

    Northwind gets slimed

Major slime. If I could ever catch a batch of whisker fish like that it would be a good time. I generally prefer thrashing the water to a froth with various assortments of meatle, plastic, and rubber.......don't like to get my hands that dirty with blood bait. Tom

    TV 19'1"- 32 racing pirogue

Make sure to plan plenty of forms. I only used 4 on this one and they just were not enough to keep the chine nice and smooth.........ended up a little wavy.....I just tell people I designed it that way, It is a secret hydro engineering trick that confuses the water into pushing the boat faster. :D

Doesn't look like the Mako is available to the public on JEM's site. I did find a reference to it in his forum. Did you ever en up making it? I see it was planned for 19' 10" That would be 9 inches longer than what I ended up with.

    TV 19'1"- 32 racing pirogue

Well, here in Missouri we may be getting relief money for drought and flooding like we did in '93. We have not got an over abundance of rain here this year the Missouri river is flooding from what is coming from up in the Dakotas and they have not even started to get the biggest part of the...

    TV 19'1"- 32 racing pirogue

JEM, Remember, this boat is grossly adapted by 4 ft. It tracks pretty good and straight but with all the extra length I am just thinking the rudder might be handy to fight the wind. The little bit I have been in it solo, just feels so light and fast that you just imagine it may become a bit...

    TV 19'1"- 32 racing pirogue

I think I will. I have got a new partner. The guy that helped me build the boat this winter. That is a definite plus, adds nearly 100 pounds to the boat compared to my original partner, but there is a lot of muscle behind those pounds. The TV will be a good boat for this race, there will be...

    TV 19'1"- 32 racing pirogue

It is over, guess I have another 13 months to train now. They have canceled the race for the Missouri River. They are replacing the Missouri river with a 150 mile race on the KAW river through Kansas :? I am not too happy about it. As a real change of pace the KAW is low. This river is...

    TV 19'1"- 32 racing pirogue

Wow, unprecedented water releases in the Dakotas predicted not to slow down for a solid month. The Missouri is raging and racers are staying off the river and training on lakes. They are starting to talk about race postponement. Hoping it goes as scheduled on the 19th of July but things are...

    SS@G Northwind

looks great. Think it could carry two adults? My guess is that it could for recreational paddling but could use another couple feet of length to go fast with two people. I would love to give this one a try next time I make sawdust. Tom

Oil canning is not much of a problem with it. Nothing compared to the water bed like bottom of those plastic boats. I am trying to add as little more to it as possible. I started out under 50 pounds and I did not think I was adding much of any weight to it but it is sure getting harder to...
