    Corn Tortillas

I'm a little late posting on this, but, Use them as a bread substitute, like Wannabe said. Or make soft corn tacos. Much better than hard corn, in my opinion. Or use them cut up into soup. To use them for any purpose where they aren't going to get cooked (like for tacos) learn to heat them...

    Not a boat

Very cool. On the frames - did you use biscuits, or dowels, or what? George

Where or How do I start?

Seconding what hairymick wrote. The basic three panel pirogues he mentioned are easy on the woodworking, they demonstrate all the basic techniques, and you can fancy one up as much or as little as you like. gbinga

    Raised Beds

Could be that I'm not paying attention right, but- -I see that the bottom slats are cedar. What are the sides? PT pine? -Would cypress fence pickets be better if you could get them? -What about the soil mixture? It gets mentioned several times, but I never saw a recipe. George

A new RWS Diane 34 in .22 cal

I have an RWS Dianna 36 that I have had for between 15 and 20 years. Beautiful machine. Don't know if their quality has held up over the years, but I certainly haven't had any complaints. gbinga

    NorthWind Finally.....

In a kiln, you could dry wood to zero moisture content. But that would probably damage the wood, or at least create a situation where the wood would warp and twist when you brought it out into the world where the air is humid and the wood would immediately start soaking up moisture...

    Fly fishing

I really shouldn't admit this, but I feel like a real dummy right now. I always wondered about John's location. Just figured he was some rich guy who had property in Texas (USA) and also in Australia. Never occurred to me that there was a Texas IN Australia. George

    Brass, stainless, something else?

Or bronze if you can get it. Stronger than brass. Probably not a big deal for the application you are talking about, though. GBinGA

    Food - Light & Simple

If Spam was as horrible as everybody says, they wouldn't still be selling it. After all, we eat hot dogs, and Lord only knows what is in them. George

    My Strip Pirogue

Looking at the picture Beekeeper posted.... when does a pirogue quit being a pirogue? Isn't that a canoe? Where do you draw the line? Another way of putting it would be, "is there any such thing as a soft chine pirogue"? Of course a dugout is soft chine, so maybe the answer is "yes". But...

She is a sleek looking son of a gun. Really enjoying this post. George

Just a little fresh DAMPER and GOLDEN SYRUP

That does look easy - and good. Mick - what is a typical beer size down there? 12oz is the norm in the states, though we can get pints in many brands. gbinga

Just a little fresh DAMPER and GOLDEN SYRUP

Is there a recipe for this, or are you just teasin' us? I searched the forum... saw one mention of damper bread back in 2009, with no recipe. GBinGA

    Homemade John Boat

If you don't want to use a motor, could you consider oars instead of paddling? Oars allow a wider boat to be practical. GB

    3 most important things

My God, what a country you have. The states have a lot to offer in terms of scenery, but the pictures you post of your homeland are stunning. And bourbon, too! George

    A New Marsh Pirogue

Yeah, I guess that is about what we deal with everywhere. It's why my boats are BC pine and luan... in Atlanta, you'd have to go on a major hunt just to get marine fir. George

    Bacon

I was reading in the Wall Street Journal just a few days ago that they might stop trading in pork belly futures in Chicago. (Pork bellys is bacon, just not sliced yet). Apparently the business is less seasonal than it was, and a futures market isn't needed like it once was. gbinga

    A New Marsh Pirogue

Don't I see some ribs on the bottom? Or were they just there during construction? (or maybe the transverse pieces on the bottom aren't called ribs?) Have you ever thought about using a tropical marine ply instead of fir? The money difference shouldn't be that awful much, considering the...

    A New Marsh Pirogue

Yeah, these aren't the kind of boats you throw up on your shoulder and march off with, eh? They look sturdy as heck, though. 70lbs wouldn't be all that bad with one of those canoe carts, but loading it car-top would be a bit much. If you could just slide it off the back of a pick-up and have...
