    SS&G No Plans Again!

Thanks to both of you.. Chuck I have learned a lot about building lightweight boats from your previous post. Light weight wooden core and and thin epoxy layers seem to be the key to light weight building.

    SS&G No Plans Again!

Not much to show since the last post. The portable building workshop has been around 100 degrees during the day. I was concerned about bubbles in the epoxy, but was surprised with zero bubbles. The cedar is about 8 years old and very dry, I wonder if that is why I’ve no bubbles. The advantages of...

    SS&G No Plans Again!

It’s August already and time to work on this boat we left unfinished in Texas. I get confused because I have a very similar unfinished boat at home in Kansas. The “cut off” tumble homes went on without much of a fuss, look a little different but do cut down the bow and stern wind signature...

    Barrier Coat

JD, you are always teaching us something! That's interesting stuff, I hope someone that has used it responds. I'm pretty happy with your rockite and graphite mixture. On the video I did see a technical about using a foam roller piece to tip epoxy. May give that a try. Thanks for posting, Andy

    NORMAL AS USUAL

We are creatures of habit. During his retirement years My Dad went to town every morning and met with friends over coffee. I now do the same thing, same general conversations and rules of engagement (respect). We value dignity and freedom, it's just in our DNA. Been that way for all of recorded...

    Pirogue Repair, Refurbish

Jack, I had the same question after a friend recommended the product. Best I could find was that it and other clear coats don't block uv rays, but protect by "uv stabilizing the surface". I never bought the explanation probably because I didn't understand the concept. I tried it anyway based on...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DMIDEMS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_YX469CFMQK3WEZKYK4XY Rolled on and tipped with a foam brush. It was getting dull, no cracking, lasted better than the high dollar varnish. The boat was in cedar grove in the shade.

    Pirogue Repair, Refurbish

Thanks JD, I new experience for me. I put a layer of epoxy in the sanded area and let it set 5 or 10 minutes to kinda fill the void where the cloth had been. The new cloth was over lapped on the old. I was pleasantly surprised how well that feathered in. Mostly restricted to tree damage...

    Pirogue Repair, Refurbish

Pirogue Repair, Refurbish. We are back in Kansas, settled in and thinking about boats again. About seven years ago, My firsts stitch and glue was a JEM TV 15 32. It was Luan, and planned to be a learning experience in preparation for building cedar strip stitch and glue. It has been stored...

Jack, I'm sure there is a tech order about manually closing B52 doors. In 20 years never saw it. But I know it takes 6 big, young men!
