    Square stern on a Pirogue.

Pretty cool idea but notably heavy and sinkable. I did notice the similarity to pirogue. If they took the hood off I wonder how many pounds they would shave off but there goes your unsinkableness.

    Square stern on a Pirogue.

Thanks guys I was thinking of keeping my beam at 32'' top and 24"bottom and making the stern 24" at top and 12" at bottom. The best I can describe it is a pirogue crossed with a glades skiff( the original kind). I guess I would call it a glade-rogue or a pi-glade. I have thought of using a...

I have alittle bit of time coming up and with the now fiance~ back in her hometown picking her wedding out, I thought I would build another pirogue- God I love these things. I have a question about square sterns. I can not figure out if I should taper it from the beam by some number say 10''...

    Whitewater canoe saddle

Sorry guys for not staying up your responses. I agree, Matt ,their should be alot more about but like your link. I worked out some of the dimensions. No wider than 8 1/2" and should run under thwart to thwart. I have figured basically a long narrow hinged box with foam on the top and a back rest...

    Whitewater canoe saddle

Has anyone ever tried a canoe saddle in their Pirogue? I have found my boat travels faster when I get up on my knees but would be painful on long distances without some support. I like my bucket seat but I think it might be easier to go to a standing position from a kneel.

    Graphite Bottoms

Thanks Kayak Jack I think I will try it on the next boat. I carry my boats on a Yakima Outdoorsman bottom up so the sunlight may be an issue. I have heard that the resulting finish is so slick nothing will stick to it so I guess spar vanish is out of the question. John

    Graphite Bottoms

I have seen alot of graphite used on the bottoms of some the pirogues found on this forum. I like the look of them. I was wondering how much protection does it give? How do you apply it? And do you need put any UV protection over it? John

    My New Pirogue

So far the paint is doing well. I did wait 2 weeks after the last coat before launching though. It did get some scratches on the first launch. Of course I feared the worst but just down to the primer. Handles mud no problem. I should have taken pictures of the olive drab the girlfriend picked...

    My New Pirogue

Thank you , Ron. Has anyone tried the Sherwin Williams all surface exterior paint before? My carpenter buddy was telling me it was same as marine paint just in different package. I was just wondering about it.

    What width?

I do understand there are alot of variables. I was just hoping someone might have a little incite into what has worked for them. I have noticed that there is more bottom area with this boat than with the last. With work being busy, I hope to finish her next week. Islandpiper, I noticed the boat...

    What width?

My Admiral is saying I guess what yours is." Where are you going to put that one?" I have few suggestions of which none are acceptable if I still want the Admiral around. I did start on another boat. 1/4" plywood bottom, 5mm luan sides( butt sliced),1x2 cedar strips for log chines and gunnell...

    What width?

They are always easier to stand in when they are on land. I am with you that you have to build until you find what you like.

    What width?

What is the best width to make stable enough boat to stand in? My first one was too narrow( 13'8" long x 22" bottom and 29" at the top and center). I have heard 24" bottom and 32" to 34" at the top. Just wanted some of your opinions. I am about to start on another.

    A new 18 lb. pirogue

How cool, that is my boat on Black Shoals lake in Rockdale County, Georgia. I built it according to the information on this web site and from Herb Cottle's. She 13'8" long, 22" wide at the bottom, 29" at the top, and 35# dry. She flies thru the water with my homemade greenland paddle. I had...

    Update on 18# Pirogue

I have not heard from Herb. A little note the rungs on the ladder are on 16" centers from center member. I have used the Kreg jig with screws and epoxy to join all the wood. I was unable to find any trim coil in a timely manner at the big box retailers but was able to acquire gutter coil...

    Spudholes

Alot of guys with fishing kayaks use their scupper holes in similar manner. They say it works great with a stake out driven thru the scupper in marsh flats.

    Update on 18# Pirogue

Thanks Freddie, I have studied his deign and have I few questions before I begin. Can you stand in the pirogue he has built? If not, what width would you recommend? Is the 3" rocker an absolute or would say 1.5" would be okay? What method of joining the rail pieces end to end would yield the...

    14' x 30" x 18 lb. Pirogue

I was looking for a pirogue plan on the internet and this thread came up so I registered. I am a yak fisherman in Atlanta.I recently completed my second Greenland paddle and his boat would fit perfectly with it. This fella you found is a genius. At 18 pounds the boat could fly. I was wondering...
