    Trim/Rocker

Trim and rocker have to work together for the best performance from any hull. The boat must also be designed for the intended payload and usage. I would guess for average usages a pirogue would paddle "best" with the bow slightly submerged, 1" or less. The stern down maybe 1" to 2" for...

    Trim/Rocker

Most common canoe designs seem to have equal rocker for and aft but many show slight differences, (2" + or - bow/1"stern)similar to oldbuffpiolets findings. Like most design features little differences are hard to detect and are easily adjusted to...

    The Cajun secret

Not to hijack Duck Calls post, but did you ever build the new boat you asked about some time back? I think you were looking for something to put small motor on and somewhat more stable than your pirogue.

    Sampan or plank pirogue

Where do you think he gets his plans from? Do you think he ordered those ribs and stems as a kit. I think it would be neat to build with solid lumber. May have to put that on my bucket list.

    The Cajun secret

The design should work well in the flooded timber and sloughs. Not sure of the dimensions, but the boat appears to have some rocker and will be well suited for easing between and around trees.

    The Cajun secret

Site said 3-5 working days. On line business, July 4th. holiday, and the mail service today, how many real days is that? Hope you get them soon. I'm looking forward to your build. I have always liked the looks of their pirogue. Where do you like to hunt, marsh, swamp or creeks?

    Trim/Rocker

I believe that but I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Most information about rocker is vague and only relates to how the boat tracks and/or turns. Homemade designing to specifics is difficult. Each feature is connected and can affect all other aspects. I have no way of...

    Trim/Rocker

My Bayou Dorchete pirogue floor is 12' long with 1" of rocker at the bow and 3" at the stern. When It is trimed so the bow stem touches the water the stern stem is submerged about 2". This seems to be the best trim I tried and it paddles well like that. My problem with that is the seat needs...

    Bayou Dorcheat Pirogue # 2

Finished it with some leftovers. The wood was not as nice as I thought it might be, but it looks like a wooden boat. First launch but no fish.:( 2 ed. trip first slime with this small bass. They can't all be big ones.

    Boat Value?

My suggestion on the labor coast was probably on the light side. I work slow and put too much time in my builds. Nobody would pay enough for me to recoup my labor, even at minimum wages. Charities request a value so they can report your donation and also to know how much to advertise the item...

    Boat Value?

This is a hard question. Several ways to look at it. The "honest value" adds to the difficulty. Food for thought: How much $ in materials and labor? Would you be willing to pay someone this amount? How much do similar boats (other materials) sell for? For handcrafted/homemade donated items...

    Bayou Dorcheat Pirogue # 2

If I would stick with the same build procedures and design, my experience would matter more. That would be boring.

    Bayou Dorcheat Pirogue # 2

I don't have access to my pictures right now. Look at this post https://www.southernpaddler.com/community/threads/truck-boat-2.10206/ . If the photobucket censorship effort is not too bad you may see enough to get the idea. If that doesn't work for you, I will try to text you a picture. The...

    I Like This Boat Because....................

Nice boat and design. For most of us a boat is a tool to be used. It is special when a tool works well for the task and is comfortable to use. Never hurts we made it our self and it looks good at the same time.

    Curved Stem

Joey we often talk about our design needs and likes are different. Our preferred building techniques are also different. I know I'm a dinosaur but the "figuring and fiddling" is what I like. I often wish more people were building with these outdated methods. I think I know how the dugout...

    Curved Stem

The V bottom part would probably not be needed. If you wanted to build your normal method (sides attached to logs and stem first) the floor would be standing proud. A external stem piece (cutwater / batter board) could be fitted and faired to it. Thin strips laminated together in place would...

    Curved Stem

I have been stumped about making the curve stem shape(canoe look)that flows under the bottom. When you built your boat you had to make the transition between the floor and sides with epoxy goop. The floor sat proud on top of the sides and chine logs. My thoughts was to curve the stem pieces...

    I Like This Boat Because....................

Joey nice pirogue. The 'tangent" and journey our first boats lead us on is the best part of building and using them. Some people build one boat and miss out on the journey. I wish there were more folks enjoying the experience. I too have made some friends along the way. Chuck that is a...
