    Don't scorn me!

I could see one of the two person inflatables in my future when the wife and I head out on the road when/if this pandemic ever gets under control enough that we decide to travel. We will likely be in a van type camper so space will be limited.

    Don't scorn me!

It looks a lot like the little sit on tops we rented when we were snorkeling in the keys. They were great fun. We could climb on and off in deep enough water that we couldn't touch bottom or where we didn't want to touch the coral. We cold tow them on a leash when snorkeling. We had a blast...

    Anchoring when fishing

I suspect that the chain idea might work well enough for a lot of conditions where I am likely to fish. I like that it easily would stow nicely in a drawstring bag. How much chain do you use? How heavy of a chain? I also figure that when a real anchor is required it works better with a...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

Maiden Voyage... I got her out this morning and was very pleased with how she performed. I put the UJ seat about 5" behind the center rib and think it was probably too far back, but the boat paddled okay any way. The bow was out of the water enough that paddling into a slight chop you could...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

I went to the local lake and decided to wait for better conditions. It was rougher than I wanted for the first time out. There was a moderate breeze kicking up some waves. It probably wasn't more than the boat and I could handle, but for the first test paddle I figured I'd wait for more...

    Anchoring when fishing

Anyone use a stake out pole instead of an anchor some or all of the time? I see some mention elsewhere of using a fiberglass pole from the walmart garden section to make a diy one. Seems like it would be quick and easy and work well in shallow water and muddy or sandy bottoms, which would...

    Anchoring when fishing

Sounds like that gives you much of what the trolley does without the fine tuning which apparently you find unnecessary. I have a feeling that I might as well in the kind of conditions I plan to use the pirogue. There is a lot to be said for keeping things simple.

    Anchoring when fishing

I assume that some kind of anchoring system is going to be pretty vital for pirogue fishing. It looks like many (most) use some kind of trolley. I have to wonder if some of the systems aren't a bit overbuilt and/or overengineered for the kind of use they will see on most pirogues. I am...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

One more picture with the seat in... I plan to get her wet Monday. The paint should be good and hard by then and the weather forecast is good.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

Okay so the color looks pretty much like the brick color I expected after some drying and outside in daylight.

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

Yeah. It is always hard to judge a color by a tiny dot as compared to a big expanse. Good news is the color did seem to tone down a bit as it dried. That or I am just getting used to it. Of course, I don't have the option to return. The markdown stuff is final sale only. The boat's finish...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

I just bought some nice exterior latex in a what I guess you might call a brick red. It was marked down from $38 to $9 for a gallon because it was a return. I think it will look nice with the color of the outside of the hull. It is a satin instead of the flat finish I had planned though...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

So far it looks like this: It has it's warts, but I think it will be functional.

"I've gotta be - shoveling off."

I've never felt the need for more than a snow stake for digging a cat hole. If one spot proves too hard to dig I try another until I have success. I camp solo most of the time that I am not staying in campgrounds or at least in small enough groups that folks manage on their own. Most of my...

A new pirogue project in Tallahassee

I think the answer in this case probably is that it doesn't.
